For the past two years, the Boys Basketball Team has defied all odds and pushed through all adversity with their now senior duo Shawndrick Latrell Young Jr. and Rondell Earl Lewis III.
When everyone thought the team wasn’t going to make playoffs, when everyone thought the team would be suffer as they adjusted to a new coach after a successful play-off run the new coaching staff and team proved everyone wrong and went further in playoffs than they have in years.
“We’re going to have a great year this year,” junior J’Lynnd Kellow, a defensive specialist and energy bringer for the team said. “We’re going to bring energy and excitement on both sides of the ball.”

The Girls Team has already played a few games and are 1-3, but haven’t played a district game yet. The girls team played Cinco Ranch High, Splendora High and Benjamin Davis High. In the Cinco Ranch game, the girls put up 34 points but The Ranch had 43 to beat Willis. The second game against Splendora ended 45-39 with the girls barely getting the L. In the third game against Benjamin Davis the girls finally got their first W of the season with 56 points. They controlled the game, only letting Benjamin Davis get 29 points.
“It was a great win at home,” sophomore Lexi Ford said. “I just wish more people were there in the student section. They were at the play off game.”
Young, the captain of the men’s team, had this to say about his team this year;
“We’re all ready for the season,” Young said. “We’ve got a great coaching staff this year, and this team looks like one of the best we’ve had since I’ve been here.”
The boys team, led by senior Lewis and Young played their first official game against Madison High this past week and got their first win; 86-83. Last night the team faced Aldine Davis at home and dominated with a 74-43 victory,
“Willis got the 74-43 win over Aldine,” Coach Wayne Ware said on the team’s Facebook page. “Student section was awesome, and wonderful crowd support tonight.”
