There is a new currency among the halls. The Lynx Loot, Brabham Bucks and Meador Money of the past has now evolved to Kat Kash.
The school store opened Monday, September 7th, accepting Kat Kash for food and other fun prizes. Behind the magic of the money, the Willis community is here to help and support WHS students by donating items for the store.
There are many ways to earn Kat Kash.
“We are hoping Kat Kash will improve the student experience. Kat Kash will be given out for outstanding attendance, behavior, and attitude. Many, many Wildkats qualify for this. We have amazing students.” assistant principal, Katelyn Owens said. “I am so grateful for folks in Willis who love our students and want to help out..”
The idea of a reward system like Kat Kash was discussed by the Behavior Coalition. This is a group of staff members who work hard to improve the culture of the school.
“The goal of the school store would be to recognize students who go above and beyond to do the right thing,” coalition member Brandy King said. “Those who want to do good and help create the kulture where it is the norm to be great.”
Students that are earning Kat Kash are hoping it will improve the behavior of their peers.
“I earned Kat Kash by sharing my Chromebook charger, and I was being nice to a classmate.” freshman Leland Grogan said. “Kat Kash will improve students being nicer.”
English teachers seem to be loving this for their students and the many positive impacts Kat Kash is having.
“I earned my Kat Kash by participating in class. My English teacher, Mr. Lewis, rewarded me.” sophomore Zoe Mendes said. “I think Kat Kash will improve our school by being an incentive for kids to actually try in class and do the right thing.”
Doing the right thing isn’t a one shot wonder type of deal. Doing the right thing is constant. Constantly students are asked to respect each other, have integrity, yet when they do there is no recognition, and it is time to reward those amazing Wildkats.
“When I give out Kat Kash I am looking for someone that is constantly doing the right thing,” English teacher Christopher Slovak said. “We are constantly criticizing and looking for all the people doing the wrong thing, that we let the ones that are doing the right thing slip through the cracks, and it’s time to reward them too.”
