READY TO IMPRESS. Members of the choir join together at the Short and Sweet concert.

The smell of baked cookies and cakes fills the cafeteria as parents and students listen to choirs sing their music and create beautiful harmonies. After their performance, everyone gathers together to enjoy the sweet treats and socialize with one another.

Each school year around mid-September, the Wildkat Choir holds their annual “Short n’ Sweet” concert in the cafeteria. Anyone is welcome to come watch the Wildkat Choirs perform a few short songs, and then stay afterwards to enjoy several sweets and treats provided by choir students and parents. The opportunity to see a concert, enjoy sweets of all sorts and get to know others all in one place doesn’t come around often.

“There’s a lot of fun opportunities provided at the concert that you can’t get anywhere else,” junior Sam Thomas said. “This concert kicks off the year and kind of introduces people to what we’ll be doing.”

Although this concert is fairly short and each choir only sings one song, it is still a significant event for the Wildkat choir.

“It’s the first thing that we do all year as far as performances, and it helps us know our starting point and how we can grow,” choir director Chelsea Jimenez said  “It allows us to sing as a full choir and get to know a little bit of everyone’s voice.”

Just showing up to the concert shows support for the Wildkat choir and all they’ll be doing this year.

“We’ve all worked really hard, and it being our first concert, we really want the support of people and knowing that they’ll be there for us,” sophomore Skylar Helm said. “We all have the chance to get to know everyone and become a family.”

Despite the fact that there’s practically free treats for everyone, the actual singing is still considered one of the best parts of the concert.

“The singing is my favorite part of the concert, because we’re able to express ourselves,” junior Tripp Henager said. “People should come to the concert to hear the art that we create, and be able to listen to and imagine the story that we create through our songs.”
