DISTRICT CHAMPS. In a shower of water spray after a 49-35 victory over Oak Ridge, coach Trent Miller holds the district championship trophy high as senior Josiah Stephens celebrates.

The Wildkats are kicking off the playoffs by playing Aldine Nimitz tonight at home. As the Kats prepare to take the field, they defend their 10-0 winning streak. The Willis Community will come and support their team at Berton A. Yates stadium on November 10th, 2023. The community expects the boys to make it through the first round and play a long hard season.

The Kats are staying locked in as the season continues, pushing through with a positive attitude.

“Being 10-0 is a great feeling, me and the guys are very excited about it, trying to keep a positive mindset, and keep pushing through the playoffs,” sophomore Jermaine Bishop said. “We are preparing to keep working hard.”

Big game at home, the football boys are expecting it to be BIG. The stands are going to be packed.

“Our team has been playing well all year, and we have been playing very hard,” junior Daylion Robinson said. “Friday should be a good game, where we advance to the second round. It’s exciting to get to play the first playoff game at home, it’s something that has never been done, something a lot of us haven’t gotten to do. This should be a good environment, and the stands should be packed.”

It will be a dual of talent versus talent when the whistle blows to start the game.

“We are all working hard. We are all just getting really locked in, watching a lot of film, going over film every single day, going over our assignments, and walkthroughs,” junior Luke Reynolds said. “This is a great feeling and a great opportunity, a great opportunity to play someone from another district, and they have a lot of talent.”

ESPN “Get Mossed” featured a Wildkat after his amazing touchdown catch against Oak Ridge. Making to ESPN is a dream for any athlete.

“Being on ESPN is not something you see everyday, so it feels good,” junior Jalen Mickens said. “I want to be perfect at everything I do, and make no mistakes and be clean all around on the football field.”
