PLAYING FOR THE TEAM. Warming up at a home game against Conroe, junior Terri Lawrence shoots the ball. The team will play in the first round of the playoffs tonight against Aldine Nimitz at Summer Creek High School.

The boys basketball team will face Aldine Nimitz in the first round of the playoffs tonight at Summer Creek High School. It is the first 6A playoff appearance in the history of the program.

The team relies on the bond they have created under Head Coach Jeremy Clark. Finishing second in district with a 12-4 record was no easy task.

“The main thing that I feel like helped us get to play playoffs is the bond that we have,” sophomore Jermaine Bishop said. “The family and the brotherhood that we have created this year helped a lot. If we continue to work hard and keep our bond with our coach and put our trust in our coach then we will continue to be successful.”

The team features several young players including several freshmen and sophomores who have joined the upperclassmen on the court.

“Ït is an honor to be on such a successful basketball team as a freshman,” freshman Tray Carmouche said. “I am thankful that Coach Clark gave me the opportunity to show myself and my talent on the team.”

As the team hopes for more than just one playoff game, the camaraderie of the team is key to success.

“As players we have a good bond, and we work really hard,” sophomore Jackson Day said. “I feel our team’s best quality is how well we keep each other together and how we all aim for the same goal so we push each other to be the best we know we can be.”

The players rely on each other, but always give credit to the coach who has driven them to achieve their goals.

“Our biggest thing would be our trust in our coach,” junior Chandler Beasley said. “We have really built that family environment in every practice and every tournament. Coach Clark has driven us to be such an amazing team with a brotherhood feeling.”
