Last weekend a group of UIL journalism students traveled to the University of Texas in Austin to attend the ILPC conference with hundreds of other journalists.
Throughout the whole convention students are allowed to choose the workshops that they want to attend, they’re many types of workshops each fit all students.

“ILPC is the state organization for student journalists, it has been around for a long time, I even attended ILPC as a high schooler,” journalism teacher Emily Meachen said.
All of the workshops reached an interest in all of the journalism students. Where that is broadcasting or feature and news stories.
“I learned so much about making the photos I take better with the different styles, and I feel way better in attempting to use manual mode,” junior Victoria Medina said.
After the convention all the students were able to spend more time together and really be able to connect with each other.
“My favorite memory of ILPC was definitely getting way closer to everyone and swimming at the hotel after the convention,” junior Maria Spencer said. “Something new I learned is that the details really matter in yearbook and journalism.”
Throughout the year UIL hosts many conventions in different cities that students can attend and find an area of their interest.
“The spring convention is a great opportunity for students and advisers to come together and learn about all things journalist,” Meachen said. “There are workshops about writing, photography and leadership, and students get to pick what they want to learn about.
