Freshman Lillian Gaskins made her presence known quickly. In just her fourth high school golf tournament, she delivered a composed 78 to rise above the field and secure a first-place finish, an early statement from a player already trending upward.
Winning her first tournament validated the hard work she’s poured into her game, showing that her early efforts are already paying off.
“Winning my first tournament felt really good,” Gaskins said. “All the work I’ve put in really felt worth it in that moment.”
Their time together has been short, but it didn’t take long for her coach to notice the work ethic that drives her.
“Lillian’s been golfing since she was a little kid,” girls golf coach Jason Yuston said. “Her work ethic, from childhood to now, has paid off with her first tournament win.”
The effects of her victory extend beyond personal achievement, strengthening the team as a whole. Her success inspires her teammates and boosts their confidence, showing how one player’s hard work can elevate everyone.
“When Lillian succeeds, we all feel the win,” sophomore Harper Sherer said. “Her achievements make our team stronger.”
Lillian’s talent is nurtured by the support of her family, with her father dedicating many years to fostering her abilities and helping them grow
“Yes, today I am proud,” Lillian’s father Tommy Gaskins said on his post on X. “Lillian shot her personal best 78 and got her first win as a high schooler. She carried her team to third place, I am a proud dad.”
Despite her strong start, she remains committed to hard work and consistency in pursuit of more success.
“I plan to stay dedicated by pushing myself in practice and staying consistent with my routine,” Gaskins said. “Winning early just showed me what I’m capable of, and I want to keep building on that.”
