Lost boys, pirates, children flying, angry fairies, mermaids and laughter that’s unimaginable.
Both drama classes put on a two day performance for local elementary students in the area and for the community on November 25 and 26.
“I am actually in theater 3-4, but I am in technical theater 2, I love theater and joining the technical aspect would be a great experience,” junior Emma Johnston said. “I was the stage manager for Peter Pan. I had lots of fun. It was a wonderful experience getting to see our theater class grow and create a pretty show like this one.”
The technical aspect of this play was beautiful to watch and it brought together a lot of the show. But all the credit can’t go to the tech crew. The acting was phenomenal by all of the drama Kats on stage.
“I had so much fun creating this play with all of my closest friends,” sophomore Georgia Jackson said. “I was Smee and Mrs. Darling, and I couldn’t have asked for better roles. I picked theater two times in a row because I enjoy acting in this wonderful theater program, and I didn’t want to stop.”
The character Peter Pan was a whimsical, funny, over-the-top-character that made the show a great joy to watch. Chege Wachege made everyone in the theater crack up with his great theatrical performance on Wednesday, Nov. 26.
“I was Peter Pan,” Wachege said. “I tried out because I thought it would be fun and my friend tried out as Wendy. I had tons of fun creating this play, there were definitely ups and downs but overall it was fun. I just love theater because I can act stupid in front of people and not be seen as myself.”
Some were a little bit more stressed out during the practices and production of this comedic performance.
“I was Smee in Peter Pan,” sophomore Annemarie Carman said. “Creating this play was pretty stressful because we had so much stuff to do in preparation for the show. Even though it was stressful I enjoyed getting the chance to hang out with my friends and make memories, Theater is so special because I love to entertain people, and getting to meet so many more people than I would have met otherwise.”
The actors did so much to make this play the comedic hit it turned out to be. A director had to be so proud.
“My absolute favorite part of the play was watching the “flying” out of the window. The kids came up with a great method of using a ladder and launching themselves off a ladder with a person swinging them. It was fun,” theater teacher Cassandra Matlock said. “It is always lovely to watch students become more engaged in theater and to become better at their craft.”
