Fall kicks off cooler weather, new beginnings

WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF FALL? Halloween won by a landslide.

It’s that lovely time of year again. With Homecoming, pumpkin-flavored everything, brisk mornings, cozy sweaters, scary movies and all the other wonderful seasonal delights, it’s hard to deny that fall is the all-time absolute best season.

While many people claim that January marks the new year, in my eyes, every fall marks a new beginning. Fall is when everything starts to pick back up again after summer’s slumbering heat. Everyone’s going back at school, there are new classes with new friends and we all have new goals for the year. This is part of what makes fall so exciting, it’s the only time of year when our school spirit is palpable. Attendance at sporting events is at an all-time high, dress-up days are anxiously awaited and Homecoming King and Queen posters plaster the walls. Fall gives everyone something to look forward to and be excited about. Especially in September, when all the fun festivities are ahead.

As soon as September hits, there are already a bunch of plans to be made and fun to be had. Kids are gleefully taking off work for the Homecoming dance. People get to go dress shopping, plan their Halloween costumes, and RSVP to spooky gatherings with their friends. Not to mention, all the pumpkin patches, apple orchards, and haunted houses available. Fall gives you a ton of great reasons to go out and have fun with loved ones.

Another great part about fall is the food. There are several fun Halloween treats and snacks that hit the shelves every October, but of course, the holiday that takes the cake for food is Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is the epitome of American homestyle cooking. It’s hard to beat the feeling of hot homemade dishes and being with loved ones. The casseroles, pies, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and debates on the best way to cook a turkey make this holiday a sweet and nostalgic break from the business of life.

Fall is a beautiful time to be alive and gives everyone something to look forward to, no matter what their jam is. Next time the clouds leave a melancholy chill in your heart, try and remember that this is the best time of the year to be in.
