IDs become mandatory for student safety

IDs+become+mandatory+for+student+safety

It’s Monday, February 12th. Wildkats wake up to attend school but with one minor difference: a student ID. Student IDs are cards with fellow students’ faces on them to be able to identify their identity.

While IDs may have an extra step to getting ready in the morning, they are beneficial for the safety of students.

IDs are beneficial because they keep everyone safe. Student safety is Willis ISD’s number one priority. While students have to wear IDs, it is possible to customize them. Lots of students feel that it ruins their outfits, but they can buy new lanyards, put stickers on their IDs (as long as it doesn’t cover their faces), and make them stand out compared to everyone else. If there need to be restrictions, changes should be made to adjust the restrictions.

Having student IDs also demonstrates responsibility. When given a student ID, it is expected that students wear their ID at all times on campus and bring their ID to school every day. Keeping track of an ID gives students something to be responsible for and looks well on them. To do certain things like get on or off the bus, enter a classroom, get lunch or use library services, students need their IDs and aside from school, IDs are like payment cards. Cards are used to obtain items or services, just like an ID is used.

While this may sound silly, there are students around campus who have hallway crushes. With student IDs, making new friends is possible, meeting a future spouse is possible, and it could help take down awkward barriers. A simple conversation like “These lanyards are so irritating,” or “Do you like your student ID picture?” could potentially help someone meet the love of their life. While that’s a reach, it can help students meet amazing people.

Some students feel that IDs would be a violation of their privacy, but the safety of the campus must be the top priority of every person on campus.

On Monday, IDs became enforced, making students have them at the beginning of class, Students can get on board with IDs if they match their lanyard with their outfit of the day or move past the fact that student IDs are enforced for the safety of students rather than to annoy them.
