KAT PRIDE. Loving his time under the lights of Yates Stadium, senior Bradley Lottinger dresses as Willie the Wildkat.

Band hyping up the crowd, cheerleaders getting their pom poms ready, and Pitkru getting the football players hyped up. These are all of the memorable events that you experience as a member of the cheer and mascot squad.

Any Wildkat wanting to tryout for mascot or cheerleader needs to attend the tryout clinic starting March 4. Tryouts are March 8.

Every year a special person gets represent to the school and be at the football games and hype up the crowd and it is a very good experience.

“My favorite memory from the football season was my first ever apperance as the mascot at a game, that will be a memory I will cherish for many years,” said mascot Bradley Lottinger.

Becoming a mascot and a cheerleader comes with a lot of benefits like going to the football games for free and being able to cheer up the crowd.

“They get to be on the sideline of all the games, its a ton of fun and they get to hang out with our cheerleaders and they get to help build school spirit,” cheer coach Shelby Thiel said.

The cheerleaders join in as a family to make the football games more fun for everyone in the community.

“Initially VCLA cheer camp brings us together, but so does traveling to away games we bond a lot more,” said sophomore cheerleader Kyndal Schiffer.

Not only does the cheerleaders and mascot hype up the football games but the band also hypes everyone up.

“I think the cheerleaders and mascot bring spirit and joy to the people around them by their actions,” sophomore Dulce Silverio said

So now the cheerleaders and coachs have to find the perfect candidate to become the mascot, are you up for the challenge.

“The perfect qualities for a mascot is someone who is willing to have fun and put it out there and it out going,” Thiel said.
