WHS ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS.

The first week in April is designated as National Assistant Principals Week. This week is dedicated to reflecting on Assistant principals’ indispensability, which often goes overlooked. Schools celebrate the work that the assistant principals do behind closed doors to make campus run smoothly every day. There are six assistant principals and one associate principal of curriculum, so seven total assistant principals on campus.

Students say they appreciate the charisma assistant principals carry around campus. They even attribute the positive atmosphere to their friendly attitudes.

“Mr. Hunnicutt is so charismatic,” junior Ashley Beltran said. “I see him in the hallway, and he always has a smile on his face. He really shows that he cares about his students and the energy he brings in needed during school days that feel so long,” Beltran said.

Students say having a nice and understanding assistant principal betters the environment at school.

“Mrs Breed is my assigned assistant principal and she’s so sweet because she is patient and funny, but she still enforces the rules,” junior Crystal Covarrubias said. “Like in the hallway she’ll make sure everyone is following the rules, but she will talk to people and make them laugh. Having a staff member who is understanding and trustworthy is so nice because she’s someone who I could talk to,” Covarrubias said.

Other students, who are office aides and work along side assistant principals, say that they are kind and good to work with.

“I love working in Mrs. Stone’s office,” senior Bradley Lottinger said. “She is so sweet and she’s very patient. Being an office aide, I get to see that she shows respect for all of her students and for the people she works with,” Lottinger said.

Assistant principals also bring their encouraging energy into the classroom, where students say they add enrichment to the lecture.

“I really like Mrs. Priwer because she always always has a smile on her face and anytime she talks to people she’s very kind. Every time she comes into our class she joins our class conversations, too,” senior Riley Heffernan said

Aside from helping the students through their attitude, students say the assistant principals have had a direct impact on their education through their extended grace or guidance.

“My favorite assistant principal is Mrs. Owens because she always asks me about my day and she has helped me get out of tough situations and she’s always helping me do what’s best for me,” sophomore River Shaunfield.
