The Wildkat football team has exceeded everything that every other school and most people from our school had expected. Each year the school have grown in students, fans, and others that come to watch the Kats on Friday nights. Getting a new stadium is more than beneficial for everyone in the community and outside of it.
A new football stadium would allow for safer stands and environments, more space for everyone to park, or sit, and serve as an all around purpose for many other activities.
The historic and current Berton A. Yates Stadium is very memorable to the community, but it is beginning to be unsafe for the fans that come on Friday nights. Yates Stadium was built in 1974, this is when the school had 399 students in total. It is out of date and beginning to be unsafe for the amount of people that go to Willis now, which is almost 2,800 students, not even including staff, parents, and the whole community who attends the games.
Another huge problem with our current stadium is the space available from parking, to the lines to get in, to trying to find a seat at the game. Since our community, students, and staff grow every day, a new stadium would make a huge benefit to parking, it would allow for more lines and ticket scanners in different areas, as well as having twice as much if not more seating area for our community to enjoy their Friday night lights, especially since they aren’t as crowded up to the person next to them.
Lastly, a state-of-the-art stadium and facility doesn’t only have to be looked at as a place where football games can be played. It can be a multi-sport facility that many athletes can use to their advantage, athletes can also use it for practice and make them feel like they are cared for due to having such a nice place to play. The stadium can be not even related to sports at all, since it is so nice it can be used for graduations, banquets, and other nice activities for Willis and other schools.
Some people in the community are concerned about how much this stadium will cost, while it is expensive at first, it will be easy to generate revenue with all the activities that come with the stadium such as ticket sales, concessions, and other things such as sponsorships.
The stadium would be a great investment in the schools future and communities happiness all around. Many new memories can be shared and school spirit can thrive more than ever.
