The slow trek to Spring Break is almost over, but it is becoming harder every day to make it through to the end. Events closing out in preparation make the wait slower and harder to bear. For that reason, people need something to do and look forward to until the sweet bliss of being out of school hits, and for that, it’s time to look at the National Days Calendar.
Starting March 1, National Play Outside Day occurs the first Saturday of every month. Gather friends and have an outing, go to a park, or go to a playground, even as they can be fun no matter their age. If that’s not very intriguing, but food may be, March 2 is National banana cream pie day. It’s not the most popular pie by any means, but there’s no reason to pass up an excuse to have a slice.
For the more patriotic people, March 3 is National Anthem Day, including but not limited to national and state anthems. Even school songs and anthems are covered under this category for those who may find school the place they’re most passionate about. For March 4, it’s Marching Music Day sponsored by Drum Corps International, so offer appreciation not just to marching band as a whole but to the drum majors everywhere.
For 2025 IHop’s National Pancake Day also takes place on March 4, in which the popular establishment offers a free stack of pancakes to patrons on the date.
March 5 has a little less to offer overall but one highlight for a few is National Cheese Doodle Day. For those unaware, the best comparison would be Cheeto Puffs, which is just one brand that offers a cheese doodle, which is rarely called by its name. Speaking of brand names of food items, March 6 is National Oreo Cookie Day. With a large range of flavors, Oreo cookies offer a bit more to a bigger variety of people everywhere.
March 7 is the last day before spring break officially starts, allowing more leeway for more casual celebration as people focus on diving into their plans for break. March 7, similarly to March 4, with pancakes, has a National Flapjack Day sponsored by Kodiak Cakes. For those in speech or debate, March 7 being the first Friday in March is National Speech and Debate Education Day. On a positive and lighthearted note is that March 7 is also National Be Heard Day. This national day is focused toward the support and spread of small businesses. In the spirit of that encouragement, it is given to students due to getting out so early to go support a small business that day themselves.
All strange days of celebration aside, spring break is something students and staff look forward to alike. It’s the first real refresher after Christmas break and for most the last one until finals roll up in May. Rather than stress and exhaust leading into the rest needed, find something to enjoy every day till.
