The bowling team starts the new season this week. The team takes on Caney Creek at A Time to Spare on Wednesday.
The Willis team brings a level of dedication and spirit that any member can grow as both a player and a Wildkat. For the past two seasons, the team has been one of the top teams in the state winning district and traveling to regionals, state and ultimately nationals in 2024.
The experiences can vary on the person, but everyone contributes to the team. These achievements can be progress of accomplishing a goal they had in mind for that season.
“My proudest moment was recently when I bowled at 182 because I always bowl like a 140 and I started 2 months ago so I’m making progress,” sophomore Kaden Hale said. “I used to max a score of 90, but now I’m doing good.”
For senior Ryan Jackson, bowling has been something he has been interested in for a long time. He has been a key member of the bowling team since his freshman year.
“When I first went to the bowling alley, I got a really high score on my first time trying bowling,,” senior Ryan Jackson said. “Ever since then I have wanted to get better and better. I saw some of my friends on the bowling team before I was in high school and knew that I wanted to join the team as well. I then ended up winning state my freshman year which made me want to try and get even better than that.”
Everyone starts from somewhere when joining a new sport team and it could be frightening for some and would want to see the positives of joining. There are no secrets to getting better in bowling. Like all other sports, it takes work and dedication.
“I would say practice,” sophomore Brandon Cross said. “Don’t worry about how everyone else is doing; focus on yourself.”
