As the Wildkats headed into the locker room at halftime, the score was not in their favor.
The 14-3 deficit could have been enough to make most teams give up the fight. Making it to round two of the playoffs is nothing to be ashamed of, but the fans in the stands were hoping for a miracle.
Then a third quarter with 16 unanswered points and 8 more points in the last quarter left the Wildkats with the win over Tomball 34-27.
“Honestly the comeback felt amazing,” sophomore Lilly Clark said. “Being down 11 points had everybody stressed, but once we started getting momentum, the whole energy shifted. You can just tell we were not going to lose this game.”
The Wildkats will face Forney on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Star in Frisco. Forney eked by Harker Heights 48-44 in the second round.
“The comeback felt amazing.” sophomore Jamal Lagway said. “We had to lock in and play our game. The job is not finished yet.”
Freshman quarterback Lincoln Frazier set a new record throwing for 390 yards.
“I feel blessed,” Frazier said. “I gotta thank God and the team for that win. We came back and fought. I am proud of our team. We got a great team and we know it. Very excited but the job is not done yet. We are just focused on winning.”
This is the third year the Kats have made it to the third round of the playoffs. The team has a lot of talent, and the second half showed off what the team can do if they are determined.
“Man I was so proud of the players for coming out that second half firing,” Coach O’Dell Turnbull said. “We knew what we had to do and we came out doing it. It really showed the grit and competitive nature of these boys.”
Frazier shared MaxPreps Player of the Game honors with seniors Jermaine Bishop and Eliseo Cantarero. The fans who had waited out a lighting delay, were on their edge of their seats as the Wildkats added the points to the scoreboard in the second half.
“I was hyped up when we started putting up a lot of points,” sophomore Jafet Beltran said. “The defense came in clutch. I was wondering what the head coach said to them at half time in the locker room because it changed the way they were playing.”
