This Christmas season, Willis High School’s HOSA chapter is doing more than preparing for competitions,. They are working to make a real difference in the community. Hoping to bring comfort and basic essentials to those facing homelessness, HOSA partnered with Underover Ministries Homeless Drive to collect hygiene items, snacks and other necessities for people in need.
HOSA Teacher Tamara Ingram explained why this year’s drive felt especially meaningful.
“I feel HOSA can make a meaningful impact this Christmas season by partnering with Underover Ministries Homeless Drive,” Ingram said. “Each of our members the opportunity to serve and support those who truly need assistance.”
For many students, this partnership opened the door to helping out in a hands on, personal way. The idea wasn’t just to run another club project. It was to make service accessible to the entire school. Boxes decorated by HOSA members were placed around campus to encourage students from every grade and every organization to join in.
Throughout the week, students walked into classrooms carrying toothpaste, deodorant, socks, and snack packs, small things that will make a big difference for someone struggling through winter weather. Teachers encouraged the effort, and even students who weren’t in HOSA said they appreciated having a simple way to give back.
“HOSA has collaborated with a local homeless drive in order to bring many homeless people in the area basic necessities,” HOSA Treasurer Salvador Vela aid. “We have done this to expand the availability of the homeless drives to high school students who feel inclined to help. This drive is for any student including non-HOSA members. I am very proud of the outcomes of the drive. Many children and adults will receive basic hygiene and food products due to the Willis High School HOSA chapter.”
