New ‘Godzilla x Kong’ movie leaves monstrous impression on viewers

A gigantic prehistoric gorilla battling dental problems, action-packed fights between various ginormous alien-like creatures, scientists turning to YouTubers for help and a child discovering they’re “the chosen one” don’t sound like plot points that could ever possibly fit within the same movie. But the latest addition to the Godzilla vs. Kong franchise, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” challenges that thought.

Before I go into my own personal thoughts on this movie, I have to admit I am not fully educated on the whole Godzilla and Kong universe. Action packed, sci-fi alien monster movies are not particularly my thing, and this is the first Godzilla movie I have ever sat down for.

Going in, I had no idea what to expect from this movie, but luckily it did not take long for the action to start happening. This movie throws new information at you at light speed, and doesn’t give you much time to process one conflict that happened on screen before they jump into another. Trying to stay away from spoilers, I feel like this movie tried everything to make sense of the nonsense it already is, but by doing this it just made the whole story so much more confusing. I found myself questioning many of the decisions made by the scientists in this movie. The fact that there wasn’t much real dialogue did not help me decipher this story well either, especially as somebody with little to no background knowledge.

Would I recommend this movie to anyone? Unless you are a thorough enjoyer of monster movies or seem intrigued by the idea of an alien toothache, I would not recommend this movie to you. With it being almost two hours long and so fast paced, it can be very hard to follow along; and honestly some of the things that happened in this movie were just plain dumb. However, I’ve heard that many fans of this franchise are absolutely raving about this movie and think it was great. I believe that some elements of this movie may have been lost in translation between me and the monstrous roaring, a language only true fans can understand.
