The first 23 days of January have invited new trends throughout the school and world. Everyone is talking about how 2026 will have major 2016 energy. Peter pan Collars. Layering lace. Feathers. Big sunglasses. Animal print. As the new year rings, so do new trends.
Peter Pan collars are no longer reserved for fairytales, they are now waltzing down the hallways. The effortlessly classy collar adds structure to an otherwise plain outfit. Typically incorporated onto a sweater or light jacket they are the perfect winter addition. Building on the form-fitting button up tops from last year, Peter pan collars are adding variety to a typical outfit.
Secondly, lace is having its comeback as the perfect layering piece. Boring sweater? Your outfit is missing something? Lace. The few inches of lace hanging from the bottom of your top is easily chic and will give your outfit exactly what it’s missing.Â
We can’t forget to mention the newest texture of 2026. Feathers. Anytime you walk through Dillards, tops are littered with feathers. Typically at the end of the sleeves, feathers are replacing sequins for a glamorous look.Â
Animal print in general is here to stay but in addition to the typical cheetah print, zebra print specifically in a tan shade, as well as tiger print. But we will be seeing animal print in a lot of different variations.Â
Another new trend for 2026 is big sunglasses. The minimal sliver of sunglasses is going out and the big sunglasses are back in, and have already implemented themselves as a ‘26 staple.Â
In terms of jewelry, statement necklaces and cuff necklaces are the new jewelry pieces of 2026, bring boldness back to the neckline. Chunky pieces are taking center stage, replacing the dainty, delicate chains that dominated the past few years. Think sculptural metals, oversized pendants, and geometric shapes that sit high on the collarbone.Â
