Pretty Little Liars Book series (2006)

Writer : Sara Shepard

Genre : Teen drama, Thriller

Lies. The world revolves around secrets with friends. The sad part of that means one of them has to be dead. There are thriller books, but none that quite take you hold like ”Pretty Little Liars”. It makes you love all the main characters while maintaining questions of whether they are who they say they are. It makes you take a deep dive in paranoia.

The first book centers around a clique of four used to be best friends Aria Montgomery, Spencer Hastings, Emily Fields and Hanna Marin. The clique slowly began to fall apart after their clique leader Alison DiLaurentis mysteriously disappears. Three years later, each one of the girls receives a mysterious text message from an anonymous person who goes by the name of “A”. Throughout the series they navigate the mystery of who “A” is, and how to stop them.

Sara Shepard does a fantastic job of creating a sense of paranoia throughout the series. Making readers scared to turn the next page. Almost every chapter leaves you more confused than the last, waiting and wondering who “A” is and what they want. When you open the book you see this quote that resonates with you through reading, making you wonder about everyone’s motives. “Two can keep a secret if one of them is dead” -Benjamin Franklin.

“Pretty Little Liars” had so much success they transformed the series into an ABC classic. The ABC classic had massive, award-winning ratings. Peaking over 3 million viewers per episode. If you watched the award winning show, there’s no doubt you wouldn’t love the classic book series that has many more twists and turns.

Sometime soon, I highly suggest reading this classic teen mystery. You will become so consumed, you won’t want to put it down. Each page comes with a new mystery that will keep you questioning. Were they even friends? Who is “A”? How does “A” know everything?
