End of year requires new motivation
Students need to make last few weeks count
More stories from Heather Jackson
Assignments pile up with end of the year major grades to top off the now overflowing cup of stress and frustration. Reviews and study materials plague students’ workloads as they are flustered by upcoming final exams, but don’t worry it’s almost over. Soon, students will experience the relaxation and stress-free summer. They will be able to swim at the pool, spend time with family, hang out with friends and binge all of the Netflix they want without the worry that staying up too late will affect their grades. Summer is almost here, but that does not mean it is time to give up.
With all of the stress and longing for summer, students still need to finish strong because even though they may feel the work unimportant, that could not be farther from the truth.
Juniors, especially, need to work to finish strong because next year they will be applying to colleges and should be proud of their extracurriculars and grades. Students would love to find anything else to do other than their homework, but if they can just hold on for these last few weeks, it can help decrease some of the stress that will come with senior year. Next year, the incoming senior class will begin the college application process. The last thing they need to be worried about is dwelling on the fact they did not finish strong at the end of their junior year. Students need to get their work done and grades up now because they will be crucially important when applying for colleges and taking the next step into their futures.
Assignments and everything going on outside of school can be stressful for students no matter what grade they are in or the difficulty of their classes. There is pressure on the students to be the best they can and get all of their work turned in regardless of things going on in their lives. However, pressure is not all bad. When dealt with correctly, pressure can transform students into the people they will become. The pressure can be good as long as students don’t give up and allow the pressure to make them better than they thought possible.
To avoid being crushed by the pressure or swallowed by procrastination, students should make lists, set their priorities and give ample time for breaks and relaxation while still leaving room to get their work done.
